Serving a show-stopping dessert to guests doesn't require the skills of a pastry chef

When it comes to planning the menu for a dinner party, coming up with appetizers and an entrée can be easy. Throw together a cheese plate to go along with that bottle of Crémant. And for dinner, roast a chicken in the oven — along with some fingerling potatoes to serve alongside — and prepare a side of asparagus. But then comes dessert. What to do when baking is not your forte?

Don't worry. If you have no interest in types of flours, leavening agents, and butter temperatures, or if your kitchen is too tiny to make a three course dinner and dessert, we're sharing our big secret with you: don't make dessert! Just strategically buy a few good-quality ingredients from the store and assemble dessert. No one will ever know (and if you have friends who care, then reconsider the friendship). Seriously though, every host or hostess should have a couple of quick and easy tricks up their sleeve for serving delicious appetizers and dessert. These are our favorites:

1. Strawberries mixed with lemon-whipped cream. Just add fresh lemon zest to cream before whipping.

2. Strawberries dipped in a lemon curd-yogurt sauce.

3. Our version of a classic Italian affogato: espresso and whipped cream served over gelato.

4. Root beer floats, served in chilled tall glasses with striped straws.

5. Fresh fruit and decadent or artisanal chocolate bars.

6. Store-bought angel food cake, toasted with a smear of Nutella and a sprinkle of toasted almonds, hazelnuts, or sea salt.

7. Ice cream sandwiches made with good bakery cookies, Häagen-Dazs ice cream, and sprinkle of sea salt

8. Fresh berries tossed with good balsamic vinegar, chopped basil, and a dollop of sweetened mascarpone.

9. Biscotti al Vin Santo. Serve store-bought biscotti with Vin Santo and seasonal fruit.

10. Baklava and mint tea.

15 No-Bake Desserts That Are Stress-Free & Delicious

Looking for some easy Labor Day dessert ideas that are ideal for grilling season? Look no further than these no-bake dessert recipes. Low-effort, high-impact, delicious of course, and they don’t heat up your kitchen…yep, they’re basically perfect. Plus, all but one are make-ahead recipes, so you can set aside time to actually relax on the day you want to eat them.

The best summer dessert may be up for debate (ice cream has to have a huge lead), but in general, they tend to be lighter, easier, and often no-bake, because who wants to turn on their oven when it’s already hot out—or after cranking out a jillion loaves of banana bread in the past couple months, as the case may currently be?

From classic creamy banana pudding and icebox cake to easy Rice Krispies treats and healthy fruit pizza, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite no-bake desserts to ensure you have a sweet, stress-free summer, at least when it comes to cooking (because there’s plenty else to worry about right now).

1. Sweet Cinnamon Fruit Dip

I have to put this one first because it might be both the easiest and most popular dessert I’ve ever made. It truly could not be more simple to put together, but literally everyone who tastes it will ask for the recipe—still, it’s equally important to pick perfectly ripe fruit (and I strongly suggest you don’t forgo the cookies).

Just whisk together mascarpone cheese with a few other ingredients (go easy on the almond extract to start and adjust to taste, or swap in vanilla, and feel free to use any liquid sweetener you prefer), then put it in a bowl and surround it with the best of your farmers’ market fruit crop, plus store-bought shortbread cookies, and prepare for a flurry of compliments, requests for the recipe, and zero leftovers. And if you’re not hosting guests this year, no worries—you’ll have no trouble finishing the whole bowl yourself in a couple days. Get the Sweet Cinnamon Fruit Dip recipe.

3. No-Bake Zebra Cake

Amy Jiang

It’s time to revisit your favorite childhood snack. Not a day went by when this was not stuffed in the corner of my lunchbox in elementary school. With only four ingredients, this no-bake zebra cake is both affordable and easy to make. The chocolate stripes add a note of sweetness and satisfaction—it really can’t get better than this.

Strawberry Sorbet

Our simple strawberry sorbet is made with just four ingredients: strawberries, lemon juice, sugar, and a pinch of salt. The citrus brightens up the berries and the salt makes the flavors pop. The recipe is easy to scale—just be sure to use 1/4 cup of sugar for every two cups of strawberry purée.

Here’s a quick and easy keto snack that takes strawberries and turns them into something special by stuffing them with a delicious cheesecake filling with a decadent dark chocolate drizzle on top. They are the perfect option when hosting a dinner party or family gathering since it appeals to just about everyone who loves a fruit and chocolate combo.

10 Healthy No-Bake Cookie Recipes

Short on time? Ingredients? Cooking expertise? No-bake cookies are the answer: a quick, easy way to conquer your cravings. However, that no-bake cookie recipe your Grandma passed on might not be as nourishing to your body as it may be to your soul. To help you out, Noom gathered 10 healthy no-bake cookie recipes that are sweet, yet simple and wholesome.

If you are looking for a more traditional no-bake, these healthy no-bake oatmeal cookies focus primarily on that classic chocolate and peanut butter flavor combination. With less processed ingredients than conventional recipes, this version still includes plenty of fiber, healthy fats, and protein.

If you struggle with blood sugar issues, you may want a healthy no-bake cookie that is lower on the glycemic index. In that case, this choice has a couple of sweet ideas that might work for you, like stevia or coconut sugar. Still utilizing that popular nut-butter-and-chocolate flavor profile, the fiber content of this cookie may also be helpful for those wanting to keep blood sugars more stable.

If you prefer a deeper, darker taste and just a touch of sweetness, these no-bake healthy cookies center around bananas and dark chocolate more than some time-honored recipes. The natural sweetness of this cookie provides a bit of that ‘chunky monkey’ flavor without all the processed sugars, while still adding lots of roughage and protein.

Should you need a pick me up in more ways than one, this recipe adds a little KICK of caffeine on top of the chocolate, which can be both delicious and energizing. Plus, it’s another lovely choice for those who want something less sweet, as well as more intense and interesting than common no-bake cookie recipes.

Maybe you are not a chocolate person, but you still enjoy the richness and protein of nut butters. This adaptation is quite simple, yet decadent in it’s own way. Plus, it only has three ingredients if your pantry is looking a little bare.

For those looking for additional energy to amp up your activity levels, adding protein powder into your no-bake cookies can be a healthy and efficient way to squeeze extra nutrition into your snack. On top of that, this recipe is quite simple and requires minimal ingredients. So it’s a win all around!

If you prefer something spicy and nutty with a hint of fruity sweetness, you can’t miss with an oatmeal raisin no-bake cookie. Tried and true flavors stand out in this recipe, so you won’t miss those, or the whole grain goodness either. On the other hand, your oven may feel a bit lonely for a while from less baking time together.

Sometimes it’s not quite snack time, and you are still craving something sweet. This recipe might make a special early morning coffee treat, with similar flavors to your favorite brunch time pancakes. At the same time, this dessert packs way less of a calorie punch than pancakes, as it accomplishes its task with mostly natural sweetness.

If you are looking for more plant-based ideas, this alternative has loads of fiber and protein from those sneaky, creamy chickpeas, while still showcasing the natural sweetness of dates and coconut and the luscious taste of cashews. The tropical, yet chocolate, flair of this choice may have you dreaming of a beach getaway in a new, hot little number you’ll need to purchase after working so hard on your health goals!

Coconut lovers may also want to include this healthy no-bake cookie bar in their dessert line up as well. It highlights the naturally sweet, satisfying taste and texture of coconut, while requiring minimal ingredients. Because of that, this recipe might also be a super choice for those cutting back on sugar and for those who want something simple yet spectacular.
